Accountabilities

This role is part of a collaborative and innovative Engineering team from Mechanical and Production engineering, through electrical and PCB design to Software development.

Primary accountabilities

• Writing, testing, debugging software in both production projects and prototype projects
• Preparation and writing of Software Requirement Specifications
• Creating supporting documentation (drawings, manuals etc.)
• Participating in code reviews, both individually and as a team
• Supporting Production, Marketing, Sales and Service departments as needed

Team Expectations

• All team members must be capable of working on and leading independent projects as well as working effectively on team projects
• All team members are expected to follow sound software design principles
• All team members will plan and develop production code as well as test new and existing code

Qualifications and Attributes

The ideal candidate will bring the following qualifications and personal attributes to the role:

Software Knowledge

• 5+ years of experience in Linux, NodeJS, JavaScript, HTML/CSS programming and deployment
• Demonstrated experience in SQL databases and database management
• Embedded software experience and programming using C and C++ is an asset
• Working knowledge of electronics hardware design, both analog and digital is an asset
• Valued experience beyond minimum requirements would be knowledge of ARM, Freescale and Atmel micro-controller architecture as well as experience in embedded Linux BSP development, Eclipse, GCC including other components of the GNU toolchain, and developing in a RTOS with embedded graphics libraries

Relevant Workplace Experience 

• UI/UX design
• Knowledge of PCB design and component selection
• Sound understanding of electrical design
• Experience programming for micro-controllers and supporting PC applications
• Revision control discipline

• Strong communication skills including active listening and clear messaging
• Builds strong relationships with co-workers based on trust and accountability
• Deals with all stakeholders including colleagues, customers and suppliers with integrity and respect
